I had a two week break at the Bahia principe akumel in Sep 2015.the complex is huge and has another two hotels on the same complex.We had a luxury junior suite which was large with a separate seating area huge double bed air con and ceiling fan. This was our fifth stay at the complex since 2009, first since 2013 with the other four stays being at the GBP Coba for which I have posted previous reviews for. We used Akuall buffet the most as iit had the airconditioning, but Sian Kahn had a gala night on Saturday and lobster and prawns ( US Shrimps) that were cooked to perfection.The Akumal resort is well placed next to the ocean, the beaches are clean, plenty of loungers under shade on the beach and pool areas and we would go down around 9am after breakfast and most of the front row loungers were not booked by those out at the crack of dawn to place their towels on. High humidity can cause a problem with damp smells in the rooms but we used the hotel's aromatherapy service and took wardrobe dehumidifiers with us which solved the problem.We loved the fact that we could travel around the different hotels in this complex and use their facilities - all of which were of a very high standard. * Music around the adults only pool tended to be VERY loud.
